I’m become a heavy user of Google Reader; all my blogs in one place. Sounds good, right?
The problem is that I like to see all the pretty colors and the formatting the bloggers so carefully insert into their work. Even if I start reading a post in the Reader format, pretty soon I’m clicking back to the original blog. All of a sudden I’ve got ten tabs open at the top of my screen.
Using Google Reader is kind of like reading a book on a Kindle. It’s a problem for me. I want to feel the texture of the binding with my fingers; I want to feel the weight of the book in my hand.
I think that viewing the original post the way the blogger intended is respectful of the work and artistry of the author. If that makes me old-fashioned, I’ll accept the title. Anyone with me on this one?
If you install Better GReader in Firefox, you can click on a title in Google Reader and it brings up the page inside Google Reader–so it doesn’t keep opening a millions tabs. That way you can see what it looks like without going back and forth between tabs. It’s great!
