I grew up with a copy of this Renoir painting in our living room over the organ. It was a cheap copy but we loved it. I was in a friend’s house this week and saw their print of this painting and decided that I need one in my own house. It’s called Two Sisters (1881) and it is owned by the Art Institute of Chicago. I talked to my mother today, and although she is rarely lucid now, she clearly remembered the print and that my brother has it in his home. I think I will go visit it at the Art Institute this weekend in honor of my parents. Maybe I’ll buy a red hat, too.
Jennie, I just talked to my mom who had just gotten off the phone with your mom…she sounded weak but coherent.
What a journey you all have been on and it’s not over. Mom said your mom is on hospice care. This is a blow and I know you are full of thoughts and cares related to the idea of losing your mom. Oh Jennie. You are all in my prayers.
Pam
I don’t remember that at all! All I remember is the lady at the piano we have above our piano now.
If you don’t have this in your house, where is it? I’m on a fact-seeking mission now.
A red hat is always a good choice. I am always amazed when I see a “real” Renoir, at how bold the colors are, and how the paintings seem to shine. This is a beautiful painting, and the fact that your mom could talk to you about the one in your family home makes it that much more special. I like that this painting is at the Chicago Art Institute. I think you should have unlimited visiting rights. It is now a part of your story.
I’m hoping to see a lot of real Renoirs this summer.
I didn’t realize that I had this set to approve comments. I hope I fixed it. Thank you for your prayers for Mom and our family.
Hi Jenny,
I am sorry to hear about your mother. Mark’s mother has also recently gone into Hospice Care. It is so sad to see the parents slipping away. Take care. Elaine
We are at that age, and it is certainly difficult. I remember when my mom moved into the “older generation” and how she talked about what a big step it was to take. Give my best to Mark.
You will probably see lots of Renoirs in France, but the ARt Institute in Chicago has a pretty imppressive collection. I was there last year for the first time in years, and was blown away once again by the real paintings. Prints are great but can’t do them justice.
You and your Mom are in our prayers.
Jennie, this is such a lovely painting and I hope you enjoy visiting it at the Art Museum. They have a wonderful gift shop where you can probably buy a print, although certainly not as great as the real thing. Hugs to you!
P.S. Your blog is SO pretty!
I could not resist this gorgeous scene. I want to put my cabin on the bank of this stream!. Someday, I’ll probably change it to an original photo I took, but for now, it makes me happy and people seem to respond positively to the serenity of the picture.
Hi Jennie,
You and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. My grandma just recently passed away, so we’ve had some tough times with her over the past few months. May God grant you the strength and serenity to deal with this time of hardship.
P.S. – Did you get the cd I dropped off at Caruso for you?
Kelly
Kelly, thank you for your kind words. I have been thinking about you as we go through this ourselves. Yes, I did get the CD and I’ve been waiting patiently for the weekend so that I can dig into the images. Thank you, thank you, thank you.
