Stars and Stripes Tablescape

GotMyReservations Stars and Stripes Tablescape Intro

Normally here at Got My Reservations, I feature a family heirloom or at least a vintage piece that inspires a tablescape. For this year’s Fourth of July tablescape, I’m pretty sure there’s absolutely nothing old or inherited on this table!

There are some sentimental pieces, however, starting with the beautiful hand-woven tablecloth we received for our wedding. It’s soft and nubby, and a beautiful way to set off the dark Amish table and all the red and white decorative items. The red, white, and blue napkins were a sale-rack find, and although they don’t scream U.S.A. chants, they add a soft element to the table.

There is nothing in the actual centerpiece that’s old, but the clear canning jars take me swiftly back to my childhood and days and days of “putting up” bounty from our garden.

GotMyReservations Stars and Stripes Tablescape Square Knot

Wired ribbon tied in a crisp square knot makes even a recycled spaghetti jar look good.

GotMyReservations Stars and Stripes Tablescape Plate Stack

Plastic star plates from Party City are whimsical and will be useful for our Fourth of July potluck breakfast.

GotMyReservations Stars and Stripes Tablescape Linens

Patriotic linens await homemade scones and bagels — and they love their Longaberger basket nest.

The flowers are snapdragons and alstroemeria from Trader Joe’s — and reused from our centerpieces for the ice cream social at church.

I’ve been working on painting the planter box with chalk paint, but I haven’t distressed it yet or waxed it. I’m still thinking about what to do with it, but I love how it corrals a centerpiece.

Another sentimental touch is the choice of alstroemeria — it’s our “wedding flower” and despite its humble roots from a grocery store, it stays fresh for a long time and is inexpensive. In the photo above you can see that I turned a sherbet glass upside down to support the candles from Party City — and they were a bargain at $2.00 each.

GotMyReservations Stars and Stripes Tablescape Flag and Ball Jar

It’s been a turbulent week here in the United States with a lot of rancor and name-calling. I’m still proud to be an American and wave my little flag on the Fourth of July.

Sharing my simple tablescapes with friends has become one of the favorite times in my week. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend and if you are in the United States, enjoy your holiday! I’m linking up today with History and Home Link Party at We Call It Junkin and Tablescape Thursday at Between Naps on the Porch.

  1. Love this table!! I especially like your centerpiece “box” and think I may have to ask my husband to produce one for me!! Thank you for the idea of using a sherbet dish for a candle holder. Very good idea!! Happy Fourth, Jennie, and thanks for sharing your happy table!! Rosie @ The Magic Hutch

  2. Very nice Jennie, I love the canning jars with the red bows and stars, and of course the flags too. I love the red, white, and blue. To bad we only use those colors for the summer holidays. Happy Forth Of July!!

  3. Popped over here from BNOTP and enjoyed your tablesetting very much! I love the star bowl with the flag in the center especially. I am not hosting the 4th this year plus we are in the middle of remodeling with messes everywhere – so no decor besides dust, heh! Happy Independence Day to you!

  4. Hello there, Jennie! You did yourself and America proud! I love it that the napkins don’t whistle “Yankee Doodle Dandy”. That’s the creative part that says you understand it’s about the feel and the overall look, not the specific pattern or colors. The napkins still fit in very well and lend sophistication to the tablescape.

I love your planter box! I can imagine it must be very hard to decide what you want to put on it. I don’t have that creative “craft” gene to do chalk art or paint or any of that, so I’d probably just leave it plain and dress it up with other stuff. I’m lazy! 🙂

I hope you had a safe and fun 4th! Here’s to a great week ahead!

  5. Jennie, I love this table and I really love that you weren’t afraid to use plastic plates! It just goes to show we don’t always need the “real” and pricey stuff to make a great table. Thank you for sharing this at the History & Home link party. Take care, Dawn @ We Call It Junkin.com

  6. Well, I’m late again, Jennie. I love your table, and especially the tiny star plate. Your white crate is perfect for holding those canning jars. Your blue canning jars are perfect, and they DO add such a vintage feel! Everything is beautiful, and I hope you had a wonderful Fourth! 🙂
