Spring Garden Party Tablescape

Is it spring yet?

The fact that my yard is finally rid of all of its little snowpiles makes me desperately hope that spring is on its way. Just last week I took this photo of the last remaining snow in my yard.

IMG_6062I was so bummed out by the weather that I never got around to setting the table last week when I took this photo of my centerpiece. Those beautiful tulips have gone to meet their maker.Thank goodness, between the final melting of the snow and my camera class yesterday, I was newly energized to create a spring tablescape!

GotMyReservations Spring Garden Party Tablescape IntroStarting with a bold spring floral tablecloth, I layered white with pinks and greens, the predominant hues in the tablecloth.

The Pier 1 wooden chargers and the Pfaltzgraff Filigree make such lovely music together. Adding the Depression glass plate in the pink cherry blossom pattern repeats the floral motif.

The wire basket was the inspiration for the tablescape; I found it lounging on the shelf at Goodwill and snapped it up at $1.00. Since my multi-colored tulips were dead and buried, I found pink silk hydrangeas and magnolias in my floral stash. The magnolias reminded me of our recent trip south to Atlanta and Chattanooga. I bought the green hurricanes at Tuesday Morning off the sale table, but added new green votive holders and candles from Yankee Candle.

Wire cafe chair napkin rings from Pier 1 made that garden theme sing a little longer, too. Just to make sure all this pink Depression glass wasn’t too too precious, the green checked napkins (I made these) and the green flatware from $5 Below give the setting a little kick. White silk tulips add another floral layer.

In anticipation of next week’s bird theme, I chose a floral teapot and white Pfaltzgraff Filigree mugs. These are our go-to servers for both coffee and tea. I don’t have much interest in sweet little tea cups and saucers, and both Filigree and Depression glass teacups are stored somewhere in our crawlspace. The little creamware dish of chocolates makes me smile.

GotMyReservations Spring Garden Party TeapotYou can’t serve tea without cream and sugar; the Depression glass set blends in nicely with the rest of the tablescape. The sugar scoop is a collectors’ spoon from the Ghirardelli Chocolate Factory in San Francisco.

I’m hopeful that with the cleansing rains this week, all the grunginess from months of snow will wash away and we will experience Spring for real.

  1. Jennie, Thank you so much for sharing your lovely Spring tablescape. The sweet garden chair napkin rings put this table at the top of the pretty tables I have seen this year. I love the green checked napkins, good for you making your own napkins. I have been looking for green gingham checks for a table and will probably end up making them too. The wire basket centerpiece and the teapot are just lovely. Have a great weekend……… Candy

    • Thanks, Candy. You can’t really tell from the rolled-up napkins, but the fabric has a little swerve in the checks which makes it more interesting than straight gingham. In the olden days when I first started collecting linens, there wasn’t much to choose from so I made my own. Now there are amazing fabrics made into napkins and I often use them as the starting point for my tablescapes.

    • That tablecloth is pretty demanding and I always hesitate to use it because it requires a lot to moderate its floral glory. I really love the Pier 1 chargers (again!) because they give a calm place to rest your eyes. Thanks for visiting, Marty.

  2. Oh, Jennie, this is such a pretty table! I LOVE your floral tablecloth and the way you have complemented it with green gingham napkins and flatware, pink depression glass and silk flowers. It’s absolutely lovely and reflects all that is special about this time of year. Thank you for sharing! Rosie @ The Magic Hutch

    • We received the pink Depression glass as wedding gifts — we were both grownups with kitchens already well established. I’m looking forward to handing it down to my daughter who loves pink, whenever she’s ready. Thanks for commenting, Rosie.

  3. Hi Jenny,
This is my first time to visit and loved your fun spring table. It is so colorful and joyful………….those lil chair napkin holders
are simply darling…………..great job. Hope you get some great spring weather soon.

    Blessings, Nellie

  4. Your pink glass is all so pretty, love the sugar and creamer. Well, your tulips were pretty, but your centerpiece here is pretty, too! Thank you for sharing this at my History & Home link party – Dawn @ We Call It Junkin.com

  5. Sometimes the inspiration bug just doesn’t hit us when we want it to. No worries…that’s why the good Lord in heaven created faux flowers!!! They work in nicely here, Jennie, and the table looks great! What a pretty tablecloth!!! That’s cheerful enough to forget about the chill going on outside! (I say that now, but I’m sure I’ll be cussin’ up a storm when I have to step out into it later today!)

GREAT buy on the wire basket! You’ll be able to use that for lots of things over and over in the future. LOVE the cute napkin holders! Oh, my goodness…those are really, really precious!!! I’ll bet they reminded you a little bit of your trip to Paris, too! 🙂

I’m going to send my cousin the link to this. She collects pink Depression glass, and she’ll be excited to see how you used it here.

I hope you are having a great weekend. Take care of yourself, and I hope that Spring comes a’knockin’ soon!!!
