I’m a person who enjoys a challenge, so it doesn’t take much for me to pick up the proverbial glove when it comes to a tablescaping dare. Cuisine Kathleen and friends, here’s my take on the All-White Tablescape Challenge — the Falling in Love with White and Gold Tablescape!
The rules were pretty simple. The challenge was to use ONLY WHITE dishes, and ONE other color for linens , silverware or whatever. The charger could be in the accent color.
We start with a linen counted cross stitch cloth that my mother-in-law commissioned. My stitchery friends believe that it is all hand done. The off-white linen and geometric gold design bring the main colors to the tablescape.
Once we’d established that gold would be our accent color, the rest of the tablescape pieces started dancing out of the cupboards. (And just ignore that other thread in the cloth — brown isn’t really a color, right?).
My trusty gold chargers and Pfaltzgraff Filigree came out to play. Paired with the embossed soup bowl and the lotus bowl, we’ve got a nice stack-o-white and gold.
The white stoneware tureen holds a collection of decorative balls in shades of off-white which brings natural texture to complement the geometric elements.
The Ralph Lauren champagne flutes and the Murano gold wine glasses add sparkle to the table.
The rustic weave of the Longaberger cracker basket picks up the geometry of the tablecloth detail. I always have extra napkins at the table and this size basket hold them perfectly. The wedding band china napkin rings get used again — I knew they would earn their price in usefulness!
Classic pillar candles and stands repeat the white and gold theme. The gold and white votive adds more natural elements to the table with its laurel wreath.
Recycle and Reuse
My friend across the street is a dealer of “olde” goods and sometimes picks up special things for me on his travels. Little did he know that the book about cordials dated 1965 would just fit right into this theme!
Topped with a votive salvaged from a funeral basket (yes, I am that person!) and a white china bell to summon the “help” — which would be me and Music Man — the book vignette adds another layer of personality to the white and gold theme and links me up with Dawn at We Call It Junkin’s We Call It Olde Party.
Falling in Love with the White and Gold Tablescape
I’m eager to see what other bloggers did with this All-White theme, but I admit that my marauding bits of gold may have taken over today’s white ‘scape. Given that I never met a shiny thing I didn’t love, I had fun actually toning down my design to keep it more natural and less sparkly.
It’s another side of Fall in our house.
